The Age Of Broadband
The world nowadays is witnessing broadband as the new way of transmission of communication. Any wave signal which consists of or handles a broad range of frequencies is known as broadband. This definition is used relatively and is best understood in terms of wide frequencies applications. The broadband range of signals is broad as the term implies. Relative to radio signals which carry a very narrowband Morse code, broadband transports much more applications including speech and music. Taken as a whole, they constitute of a broadband communication and a narrowband communication while separately considered. That is the great advantage of broadband communication. Broadband can cater for a wide band of frequencies in used and can transport them simultaneously. Information may be multiplexed by sending them on many discrete channels or frequencies within the band, thus enabling it to transmit more data in a specified time frame just like the greater number of lanes on a highway allow more number of cars to travel at the same time. To identify a broadband certain minimum data transfer rates are to be defined when the data is being transmitted as a broadband or as a narrowband. This minimal rate of transfer for broadband transmission may range between at least 20KHZ to 256KBPS to channels that are at least 6MHZ wide.
